Spring is a time of renewal and can spur a desire to bring new life to mindsets, habits, and physical spaces. If spring has you ready to upgrade a space in your house, it can be both an exciting and daunting task. Here are a few tips to help you get ready to breathe fresh air into your home..
Start small
One of the best ways to combat overwhelm when updating an area is to begin with something small. By starting with little changes, you are able to break down a big “to-do” into manageable bite-sized pieces and are more likely to see your goals become reality. One of the best ways to start small is to pick an area of a room or even just a focal point in the space that you really just don’t love. Take an inventory of what items are in the space you choose and focus on what you like, or don’t like about each piece. For the items that have more dislikes than loves, either find them a new place in your home or donate them. This will clear up room for things you will love instead. Once you have space, think of what you would like to needs you have. Is comfort your main driver, or is sleek storage a must-have? Is there enough light in this space, or is your seating looking a bit bare? Sometimes simple swaps such as fun throw pillows, a stunning accent cabinet, some comfortably stylish accent chairs, or some dramatic lamps, are all a space needs to feel fresh and functional.
Get inspired
Sometimes you know what space you want to revamp, but have no idea what you want it to look like or where to start. Do you prefer traditional pieces, or does a modern flair speak to you? Are you more of a tranquil blue, or a vibrant yellow? With so many options, it can be hard to know what type of feel you will want your room to have. One of the best ways to overcome a style block is to look to things others have already done. With the plethora of design inspiration on the web, you have an endless supply of ideas sure to motivate your inner design guru. From videos to Pinterest boards, you are sure to find something that fuels your creative side.
Measure, Measure, Measure
Once you have your space and style ready to go, the next most important step is to know what will actually fit in your room. In a store, or even when viewing things online, items such as couches, tables, chairs, and accessories can feel much smaller than they might once they show up in your home. Having solid measurements beforehand will allow you to know that once you find the pieces that make your heart happy, that they’ll make your home happy too.
